iiNet Top Geek 2.0

Posted on March 29, 2012 at 9:00 PM

Philes from around the world. I need your help.

I don't ask for very much from the fandom, except for the occasional donation to charity.

Today what I am here to ask of you, is for votes - and to spread the word about a competition that I'm in the running to hopefully win.

iiNet (Australian Internet Company) launched a competition last year. This year, Version 2.0 is going to be extremely tough.

I entered into the competition a couple of days ago, and quickly found myself in the top five contestants for 'Fandom' and as of today, am currently 8th overall. I'm up against some pretty big gaming and internet geeks, and another fandom geek in the form of a Xenite.

There is a chance for me to make it straight through to the finals in May (Which will be held in Perth) - but in order to get there, I need your votes.

I am the only 'Phile' contending in this competition, and I want to speak loudly for the fandom, and I want to do you guys proud at the same time.

So, if you could click on this link (http://www.topgeek.iinet.net.au/entry/list/#view/132) and vote for me. It will only take you a second, and you don't have to sign up for anything. If you want to, you can read my Phile Story at my blog, and watch a video of me when I appeared on Showtime's 'The Playlist' in 2008 prior to I Want To Believe being released in cinemas.

The winner of this competition will receive an all expenses paid trip to the convention of their choice. This would give me the opportunity to travel to either London or Toronto, and come and hang out with some of the amazing Philes that I have met online over the years (and of course, get to see Gillian Anderson at either of these events!) - So please, if you can, help me out!

What can be imagined, can be achieved.

X-Philes for Japan - Charity Fundraiser

Posted on November 8, 2011 at 1:40 AM

On March 11th, 2011, as news of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan broke, our hearts went out to the people of Japan, and Renegades of the FBI, X-Files News, Aussie X-Files, Serenity of X, "Fox & Rat" Virtual Series, X-Files Universe, TV Chit Chat, and Fandom Frosting, teamed up to create X-Philes for Japan--a fandom with a cause!

XPFJ is now teaming up with cast and crew members of The X-files and JCIE/USA’s Japan NGO Earthquake Relief and Recovery Fund in a worldwide fundraising effort that will bring together X-philes from around the world in a fun way for a very good cause!

Now is your chance to own a one-of-kind paper crane, hand-signed in person by cast and crew members of The X-files! (See list below) Starting this Friday, November 11, 2011, X-Philes for Japan will host a series of unique Ebay Auctions just in time for Christmas! The auctions will end 11/21/11, and all proceeds will go to the Japan NGO Earthquake Relief and Recovery Fund.

So, who's signed and why Paper Cranes? In the Japanese culture, the Paper Crane symbolizes honor and loyalty, good luck, peace, happiness and hope. Today the practice of folding 1,000 cranes represents healing and hope during hard times, and legend has it that a person who folds 1,000 paper cranes will be granted his or her greatest wish.

This holiday season, you'll be granting wishes for Japan's recovery with your donations, and getting something pretty cool yourself! Cranes up for auction are signed by one or more of the following people:

David Duchovny - Gillian Anderson - Chris Carter - Frank Spotnitz

Dean Haglund - Bruce Harwood - Tom Braidwood - Mitch Pileggi

William B. Davis - Sheila Larken - R.W. Goodwin - Robert Patrick - Annabeth Gish

For more information, or to donate to the cause, check out our official website HERE (http://xphilesforjapan.bbnow.org/) and follow us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/X-Philes-for-Japan/197356986952615) to get a sneak peek at the cranes you can win!

XFN: X-Files 3 Campaign

Posted on April 21, 2011 at 2:12 AM

A picture is worth a thousand words and this year, X-Files fans are betting that 10,013 pictures are worth a greenlight for a third, X-Files feature film. The Believe in the Future campaign, headed up by XFilesNews.com since 2009, has collected thousands of postcards, videos and souvenirs for Fox from fans of the series. Fox met with XFilesNews two years ago to accept a massive delivery of fan mail from around the world. Later this year, they are prepared to do it again.

The Believe in the Future campaign has the support of fans and fan groups in more than 30 countries representing 6 continents.

Despite the less than stellar performance of The X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008, many fans and critics alike have pointed out that with December 2012 looming, Fox Film has a perfect opportunity to bring back the mythology of The X-Files.

The Believe in the Future campaign's 10,013 Photos for a Greenlight seeks to gather fan photos from around the world spanning the years 1993-2011 with messages to Fox explaining what The X-Files has meant to fans and why they should green light a third film.

Equally exciting is the news that an X-Files event is being held at the American Film Institute in Los Angeles on May 7th. Series creator Chris Carter is expected to be there along with actor Mitch Pileggi, executive producer R.W. Goodwin, writer and director Glen Morgan, and actors Sheila Larken and Jeff Gulka. A surprise guest is also slated to make an appearance for this Q&A and book signing for the recently released, LAX-Files.

The X-Files is a pop culture icon with mentions in television, radio, newspaper and magazines even now, 9 years after the end of the series.

With 2012 around the corner, and word that a third X-Files script is in the works as of this year, fans are ready to believe in (and make) the future together.

2010 at a glance - Year in review

Posted on December 23, 2010 at 3:08 PM

Even though there is still a week to go for 2010 - This is about the only chance I am going to get to write a year in Review.

The year started pretty much exactly the same as last year - receiving a message of extreme gratitude from the lovely Ms Gillian Anderson for our 2009 OTSK Charity Fundraiser. :) There were plenty of gatherings around the country - coming together to celebrate friendship and x-files. April/May 2010 "Fanderson" Marathons were held around the country - helping "IBG Inc" raise funds for Off The Street Kids. August 2010 some Brisbane Philes walked the 10km Bridge To Brisbane course for OTSK. September marked the beginning of three solid months of fundraising for Gillian's favourite charity "Alinyiikira Junior School" - the major fundraising event being a private screening of "The X-Files: Fight The Future" at the Blue Room Cinebar, Rosalie (Brisbane). 60 excited fans packed into the cinema to watch personal messages from Frank Spotnitz and Gillian Anderson - as well as the Bluray extended cut of FTF, Gag Reel and "Alternate Bee Scene". Over 100 auctions were held online on eBay, and plenty of merchandise was sold (including a special X-Files Down Under image that was designed by fan artist, Perla Nation). Special thank you to all fans who donated memorabilia for auction. In November, AXF Started it's 2nd Annual "Secret Santa" game. Thanks to the "Elves" for their organisation! The big reveal is coming soon ;) December 14th saw the end of our charity auction, raising a grand total of $8790.22 for the school - which we have been told will help build a teachers living quarters on site in Uganda. I also got the chance to represent AXF in "Wordy Mofo"'s Christmas Edition (Volume 3, from page 10) - always good to get some press!

Wishing everyone a safe and Happy Holiday Season, and also here's to 2011 being just as amazing. Hopefully we'll get that all important Green Light that everyone wants so badly!

2010 Fundraising Wrap-Up

Posted on December 14, 2010 at 6:21 PM

I am absolutely thankful to each and every single person who donated, won auctions or just generally supported this years AXF "Alinyiikira Junior School" Fundraiser. Without your support, we wouldn't have been able to raise over $8700 for the school!!!

I have been advised this morning by the AJS Website that our funds are going to be put to very good use!!!

Godfrey, the headmaster of AJS, recently wrote to say that they hope to receive funds to go towards the construction of housing for teachers (they don't live near the vicinity of the school and the rental facilities available to them are not good).

He says:  "Our only worry is the accommodation facilities for the Teachers. We hope to recruit more Teachers but we are really faced with the problem of accommodation because right now we have to rent rooms for them outside the school.  We always tell them that we shall soon construct Teachers' quarters so that they can reside in a conducive environment.  If we can have twelve rooms, this will be a big boost for the school and we shall have a breathing space next year. Please whatever you can get we shall put in to good use."

They will be ecstatic to know that your fundraiser will help them achieve this dream!

"What can be imagined.... can be achieved..." indeed. :-)

X-Files 3 Script Underway

X-Files 3 Script Underway

According to a French interview today with TVMag, David Duchovny has reportedly said the following of a third X-Files feature film:

"It is being written. One awaits just the green light from Fox, a little disappointed from the relatively poor reception of the second film. The error comes, in my opinion, that the authors strayed too far from the roots of the series. Moreover, the film was released in the summer. The third will be much closer to what the public expects, with government conspiracies, etc. "

XFilesNews has been campaigning for a third film since the release of The X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008 and launched the Believe in the Future campaign to convince Fox to green light by 2012.
